Five teams set off as the favorites to win this year’s final

Temas relacionadoMost of the analysis coincide: five are the favorites to win the FIFA World Cup on July 15 in Moscow. These are Germany, Brazil, France, Spain and Argentina.

It would be a real surprise if any other team were to win, especially considering that the regular favorites like Italy and Holland failed to qualify for the tournament.

Although they may not be on the same level as the favorites, we should not fail to pay a close look at Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal, Kevin de Bruyne and Eden Hazard’s Belguim and Harry Kane’s England.

So, why do all bets point towards the same teams?

German reliability

Throughout the years we come across different players, coaches and styles of game, but there is something that never changes: Germany is always among the favorites. After winning the 2014 Brazil World Cup, Die Mannschaft will seek for its fifth cup in Russia.

The German team does not have the most striking stars, but bases itself on the team strength: the Germans form a competitive and physically strong group, but also have technical players capable of disarming any opponent.

Brazil, the aristocracy of Soccer

Brazil is the world’s soccer King. The Brazilian team holds five world cups, more than any other team in the history of the competition.

Just like Germany, the Canarinha is always in the pools to win the title. Its main asset this year will be Neymar, who will try to prove himself as the best player on the planet and succeed Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

But Brazil has much more to it than just the star of Paris Sant-Germain: it also has talented forwarders like Coutinho and Gabriel Jesus, as well as strong and experienced midfield and defense players.

The young France

With a very new team, Les Bleus are the other favorites to wining the World Cup. France stands out for the quality of its attack line, with figures like Kylian Mbappé and, especially, Antoine Griezmann, in addition to the team’s great physical strength.

France already came a long way in the last European Championship: they were runner-ups after losing the final against Portugal.

France is expected to be a fearsome opponent again this year, although there are those who think that the youth of its players could be an inconvenience in such a demanding tournament like the World Cup.

Spain, plenty of talent

After a lifetime failing in quarterfinals, Spain managed to reach the final and won the title in South Africa 2010. Of course, four years later it disappointed its fans at the World Cup in Brazil, 2014 where it did not even make it past the phase group.

Spain, now trained by Julen Lopetegi is among this year’s favorites to win the final thanks to its success in the qualifying phase and its flashy game.

Its most outstanding line is the midfield, with such talented players like Andrés Iniesta, David Silva and Isco Alarcón. So far its biggest weakness has been the lack of goal.

Leo Messi’s Argentina

Argentina has been chasing its third World Cup for over 30 years. To make it this year in Russia, the national team has Lionel Messi, who is capable of everything.

If it were not for the genius Messi, this team would have most likely not even been within this year’s favorites. The light blue team was already runner-up in the last World Cup and has some fearsome attackers like Pipa Higuain or Kun Agüero. Its game over the qualifying phase has cast some doubt, though.

All hopes of the South American country depend on the inspiration of Barça’s number 10. At the age of 30, this might well be La Pulga’s last chance to take Argentina to the top.
